Artificial Intelligence and Big Data
The issues surrounding artificial intelligence and big data are transformational. They generate dilemmas in the everyday life of societies, human rights, democracy, as well as in academic research.
The cross-cutting nature of the topics highlights the importance of encouraging reflection and debate, thereby contributing to an understanding of these issues and of their impact on society.
This is the main objective of this interdisciplinary conference, whose organizing committee brings together the Instituto de Ciências Sociais and other institutions in the University of Lisbon – the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Sciences and the Instituto Superior Técnico - the Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa (Lisbon Engineering Institute), and the Centro Nacional de Cibersegurança (National Cybersecurity Centre). It also intends to widen the debate, combining the academic component with outreach and involving a variety of other actors, such as the news media and ethics committees, amongst others.
